Quick Compare
Description
"Quick Compare" tab focus on comparing multiple buildings that are selected by the user. There is a histogram which displays a bar graph showing the selected buildings’ number of users and percentage of capacity at the selected time. Below that, there is a line plot showing all selected buildings’ WAP activity throughout the day.
Functionality
Interface Overview
- When opening the website, the Map tab appears first. However, if user wants to go to "Quick Compare" tab directly, hamburger (red circle) can be used to navigate to "Quick Compare".
- There is a short tutorial (red rectangle) to teach users how to use "Quick Compare" tab, and user can hide the tutorial anytime by clicking "-" in the upper right corner.
- A selection panel (blue rectangle) is used to let users customize their inputs selection so that they can see different result histogram and line graph according to their needs.
Input Selection
Users customize their inputs using the following 3 selections:
- Choose a date: Select a date that you want to see the information on.
- Choose a time: Select a time that you want to see the information at.
- User can also click "NOW!" to update date and time to latest automatically
- Building Multiselect: Select several buildings to compare.
- User may jump to "Quick Compare" from "Find a Place to Study", then the date, time, and one of Building Multiselect will be selected automatically.
After selecting all inputs, user need to click "Update Graphs" to update the map unless user clicks "NOW!" to update date and time to latest or jump here from "Find a Place to Study".
Histogram(Bar graph)
-
Suppose the user jumps to "Quick Compare" from "Find a Place to Study", then inputs(date, time, building) are pre-selected as "Find a Place to Study". (If you see the "Map" or "Find a Place to Study" page in our wiki, then you will know that the example in the them is Rensselaer Union on 2020-11-17 10:00am)
-
User can select more buildings to compare with Rensselaer Union. Suppose there are four more choices: CII, DCC, Folsom Library, and VCC.
-
The colored part (yellow line) is the number of users of that building at selected time.
-
The colored part plus the white part (red line) is the max number of users in the whole semester of that building.
-
The percent number (blue rectangle) is the percentage of capacity of that building at selected time.
- We can see that DCC has fewest users and smallest percentage of capacity, so DCC may be the best choices among these buildings. Moreover, we can see that although VCC does not have too many users, but it has very high level of percentage of capacity, which is not a good place to go.
Line Graph
- Suppose the user jumps to "Quick Compare" from "Find a Place to Study". (Example is Rensselaer Union on 2020-11-17 10:00am)
- The black line (blue rectangle) indicates the time that user selected.
- The legend (red rectangle) shows which color corresponding to which line.
- We can see that DCC is the best choice. However, if user can go to campus before 10:00am, then Folsom Library and Rensselaer Union are also good choice at like 8:00am or 9:00am.
